Case Study<br \/>\n<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Situation<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Locust Grove Village, a 50-bed skilled nursing home and a 16 unit limited care retirement apartment community, was faced with a common rural America challenge &#8211; an aging population base.\u00a0 Additionally, assisted living services did not exist at Locust Grove Village or in the county where they are located.\u00a0 Because Locust Grove Village lacked this continuum of care in the services they provided, there\u00a0was a gap between independent living and nursing home care.\u00a0 Citizens had to locate out of the county to obtain assisted living arrangements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Families\u00a0were forced to separate, family generations moved apart, not because they wanted to, but because no assisted living facility existed close to home.\u00a0 And once grandparents moved away to an assisted living facility in another county, they\u00a0were not moving back.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Strategy<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The LGV Board of Directors hired Virgil Scott Consulting, Inc. to conduct a campaign planning study to determine the feasibility of raising a significant portion of the funds needed to add an assisted living center to their existing facilities.\u00a0 The final report from the study indicated that it was possible to raise $750,000 in donations of the $2.1 million project total.\u00a0 To meet the needs of area citizens, the Board moved forward with a capital fundraising campaign in June 2012 to raise the $750,000, pursuing gifts from individuals, companies, corporations and foundations.
